I am really excited to make this quilt as part of a quilt along hosted by quilterinthecloset.  My fabric selection is Wild Rye by Dan Bennett.  I found it on sale at my local fabric shop.  I sure hope it turns out.

I am not sure if it meets all the recommended fabric requirements.  It does have only a few colors and a 24" repeat.

Umbrella Prints Trimmings

I ordered away for my trimmings pack.  I just love the navy elephants.
Notice the hearts and elephants
I was inspired by the big orange heart.  It seemed to me it wanted to be a whole heart but could not quite make it.  I designed two pillowcases to complete the hearts with each other with the words u complete me. I just love the orange and blue.  I used some linen from my stash and did a reverse applique around the heart and then cut it out.  I think the bright blue really sets it off.

Outside to show off the vibrant color

On the bed where they will be used.  One for me and one for the hubby.

Then I used the blue elephants to make a small zip purse to help contain all the "stuff" in my purse.  I really love how the yellow sets them off.  I am so happy to have an elephant in my purse.

Wish I was a better photographer. Anyway, that's what I made with my trimmings pack.

Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day

Its giveaway day

I never really thought I would participate.  However, I really enjoy visiting all the sewing and quilting blogs.  So much great information is shared for free.  So many great giveaways.

Here is my mine.
A little purse made with some Liberty of London scraps and Laura Gunn's painters canvas.  It measures approximately 6" x 6"
I used some fun stitching with heavy thread.  Who knows maybe there will be a little Liberty of London inside?

To enter just leave me a comment telling me if you would rather vacation in the mountains or at the beach. My choice is Glacier National Park with both mountains and lakes.
I will leave the contest open until 8pm EST on Friday May 10th.  I will pick a random winner on Saturday.

The giveaway is closed.  Thanks to everyone that entered.  I will tally up the beach/mountains to see which one is more popular.

First Communion Coin purse

I put together a quick coin purse for a friend making her first communion.  I had some fabric from a line called Cherie by clothworks.  I fussy cut some of the images.  I used another fabric from this line on the inside.  I followed this and this tutorial.

Pillow and blocks

Some sewing pictures. A pillow I made for my friends daughter Rose.  She graduated from Purdue University in December with an Engineering degree.  I made her sisters mini quilts you can see here.  Based on a girl on a swing tutorial.  I decided on a pillow this time.  It incorporates some upcycled shirt material from her dad.  I used the zipper tutorial at sew mama sew.  I dressed the girl in black and gold with a gold P for Purdue.  Purdue is also my alma mater.

I also finished up these blocks for the great lakes modern quilt challenge based on converging corners by Ashley at FITF.

giant star quilt

Finished this quilt based on Jeni's tutorial over at in color order.  I was also inspired by Katy's velveteen version over at  imagingermonkey.
Mostly Anna Maria Horner fat quarters that I had in my stash.  I added the small bits that were trimmed from the fat quarters to the border.  I really like how it added to the frame of the star

Back is a stripe by Denyse Schmidt.  Really like this stripe and it is on sale at  a number of on line shops.

I just love the citron crosshatch sketch.  This will be mailed off to my former graduate school advisor tomorrow.  He recently moved and I thought it would be a nice house warming gift to let him know he is in my thoughts.
Quilt stats:
Finished size:  ~68x68
Quilted:  by me in a hanging basket design.

Valentine bot

I made this bot from a free pattern over at ric-rac.  I left in at my husbands breakfast spot on valentines morning and he did not even notice it (big sigh).  The note in the pocket says be my valentine.  He said he would and claims to love the bot.
